PIANO RECITAL - Pablo García-Berlanga - Ateneo Mercantil de Valencia

Resumen:

The best part of the recital came with Claude Debussy's Préludes (Book 1): “La fille aux cheveux de lin”, “La sérénade interrompue” and “La chatédrale engloutie”, the latter one being especially delicate, touching and full of maturity. It was then when he showed his comprehension of the French composer's work and I must admit I had not listened anything so beautiful in a long time.

I would like to conclude this post by making a brief reference to the great recital given by the pianist Pablo García-Berlanga (Valencia, 1986) on Sunday morning.

He began the concert with two Mozart pieces: Fantasia in C minor, K. 475, and Sonata No. 14 in C minor, K. 457. Despite some initial stiffness, his flawless execution, characterised by his virtuosity and precision, gradually gained deepness and shaped a powerful, moving interpretation.

The second part comprised Johannes Brahms' 7 Fantasien Op. 116, subtly performed as expressive and colourful as it can be by García-Berlanga, who mastered the complex density of Brahms' compositions and proved it when he faultlessly played the final Capriccio Allegro Agitato.

The concert concluded with three framents of Sergei Prokofiev's “Romeo and Juliet” and the grand finale I Capuleti e i Montecchi was a clear example of precision and vibrant grace.

With a standing ovation, the audience, which as a matter of fact were quite noisy and bothersome during the recital, fairly rewarded the work of a young pianist who will surely achieve a well-deserved international success. Posted by Atticus
